Man Dies After Being Reportedly Run Over By Delivery Driver At Cutwater Spirits Tasting Room In San Diego's Miramar

August 31, 2023

A man has been killed after allegedly being run over by a delivery truck in the parking lot of Cutwater Spirits tasting room and restaurant in San Diego's Miramar.

According to the San Diego Police Department, a 31 year-old man entered his parked Chevrolet delivery truck at approximately 2pm on Wednesday, August 30, and began to drive through the parking lot at Cutwater Spirits Tasting Room at 9750 Distribution Avenue in San Diego's Miramar neighborhood. Unbeknownst to the driver, a 28 year-old man was laying down underneath the delivery truck at the time and the delivery truck ran him over. According to a former Cutwater Spirits employee, who claims to have seen the security footage, the SDPD's conclusion that the deceased was run over is incorrect and he actually laid down and never got up, and the footage does not show any vehicle in play.

The deceased man, whose identity is being withheld until next of kin are alerted, was purportedly transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. During SDPD’s Traffic Division's investigation, the SDPD claims to have determined the man who was run over had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the incident. It is believed the deceased worked less than a mile away at Athletic Brewing Company.

We reached out through social media to Cutwater Spirits for comment and more information and were directed to contact their parent company Anheuser-Busch. We also tried to call the Cutwater Spirits tasting room but their phone has been busy throughout the day. We have not yet received a response from the Budweiser company.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 888.580.8477.
