Specializing in "Boston Beef" sandwiches and other East Coast favorites, Big Jim's Roast Beef has gone from pop-up to brick-and-mortar with the opening of the company's first standalone eatery in San Diego's Pacific Beach.
For the past few years, Massachusetts native James "Big Jim" Jones has been operating Big Jim's Roast Beef as a roving pop-up eatery, launching at area breweries, bars and farmers markets. Jones is a longtime cook, having worked locally at Cloak & Petal in Little Italy. He started Big Jim's Roast Beef during the pandemic and has gained a loyal following. This summer, Jones signed a lease to take over the quaint standalone space previously occupied by Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood.
Big Jim's specializes in the "North Shore Beef Three-Way" sandwich, a North Shore of Boston specialty that includes tender, rare top round roast beef piled high then topped with mayo, white American cheese, and "James River BBQ sauce," all served on a toasted onion bun. For his new standalone eatery, expect an expanded menu with items like an Italian sub, meatball sandwich, chicken parm, a French Dip and other rotating menu items.
Big Jim's Roast Beef opens on Friday, September 8, at 4pm, at 4508 Cass Street, Suite B, in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, follow Big Jim's on Instagram.
