September 21, 2023After three years in development, Los Angeles-based Malibu Farm has finally opened its newest restaurant in the space long occupied by The Harbor House in downtown San Diego's Seaport Village.
Celebrity chef Helene Henderson and her husband - actor, film director and restauranteur John Stockwell, founded Malibu Farm by hosting small intimate dinners in the backyard of their little farm in Malibu area of Los Angeles. Malibu Farm eventually launched its first standalone location on the Malibu Pier and now has full-service restaurants throughout the United States and the world, including New York City, Miami, Tokyo, and Cabo San Lucas.
In October 2020, Malibu Farm entered a lease with the Port of San Diego as part of the bay front retail center's multi-million dollar renovation. Malibu Farm San Diego was originally slated to begin construction in fall 2021 and open for business by summer 2022, but the project has been severely delayed due to construction-related bureaucracy.
Malibu Farms has finally opened in the 14,000 square-foot building that housed Harbor House restaurant from 1980 to 2020. Malibu Farm's Seaport Village, waterfront locale has room for up to 400 guests, offering an airy, SoCal-inspired two-story space, an ice cream & espresso bar, and a curated home goods boutique. Designed by Los Angeles-based Bells + Whistles, the firm behind such area hotspots as Animae and Jeune et Jolie, the restaurant exudes a modern farmhouse feel with a second story main dining room, a full bar, and ample al fresco seating with expansive views of San Diego Bay.

Malibu Farm offers an organic menu featuring daily brunch and healthy dinner options, which includes San Diego-exclusive dishes prepared with our own local seafood and produce. Expect an eclectic variety of bowls, sandwiches, salads, tacos, entrees and this-crust pizzas, as well as a full bar with cocktails, beer, wine, and other hard beverages.
