Bar Nice To Bring Classic Old World French Bar-Forward Bistro To San Diego's North Park

November 15, 2023

Opening next year in the space that last housed Aburi Sushi in San Diego's North Park is Bar Nice, an Old World-style French bar from an experienced restaurant operator.

Anthony Viveros boasts a wealth of hospitality experience. He was most recently the co-founder and Director of Operations for Nolita Hall in Little Italy and its parent company Black Swan Hospitality. He also worked for Gary Friedman and Brendan Sodikoff of nationally acclaimed restaurant group Hogsalt Hospitality at Restoration Hardware and helped Sam Fox of Fox Restaurant Concepts open five True Food Kitchen locations, including the one at Fashion Valley Mall. Viveros recently branched off on his own to launch his own Nice Hospitality LLC starting with Bar Nice in San Diego's North Park, where he has resided for over a decade.

"Bar Nice, as in Niçoise, is a French Bar," explained founder Anthony Viveros."It’s been a concept I have wanted to bring to life since I first visited Nice, France. While I was there I thought to myself 'Why don't we live like this in the States?' and 'This is nice.' My goal with Bar Nice is to bring that experience into this space. We want to be the antidote to your typical American day."

Viveros has signed a lease to take over the unit previously occupied by Aburi Sushi on the base floor of North Park's historic Lynhurst Building. Bar Nice will be, first and foremost, a bar with the bar itself designed to be the heart of the space. The team is pulling inspiration from French "institution" style bistros, like Le Bon Georges in Paris, as well as their American counterparts.

"We love France," continued Viveros. "We want Bar Nice to be the French bar you picture in your mind, see in movies, and read about in famous novels, even if this version of a French bar doesn't really exist in France. We want to be the casual neighborhood bar where you meet friends for one drink and end up staying for 2+ hours."

Bar Nice's cocktail list will feature classic cocktails leaning toward "French" inspired drinks including Rhum Agricole Daiquiris, Quinquina Spritzes, and Armagnac Vieux Carrés while not shying away from martinis and Manhattans. The wine selection will emphasize low-intervention wines, complemented by a concise food menu featuring classic bistro dishes and a rotating selection of fresh seafood crudos.

Bar Nice is expected to open by summer 2024 at 3396 30th Street in San Diego's North Park. For more information, follow Bar Nice on Instagram
