New York City-based Shake Shack will open its newest area location as part of an incoming, outdoor food hall opening in downtown San Diego.
Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day "roadside" burger stand that has earned a cult-like following for its menu of Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, griddled flat-top dogs, frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. Founded by celebrity chef Danny Meyer's, the first San Diego Shake Shack location opened in Westfield UTC in fall 2017 and there are now location in Mission Valley, One Paseo, Little Italy, within The Beacon La Costa in Carlsbad, and inside Westfield Plaza Bonita mall in National City. The first area Shake Shack with a drive-thru ordering system was set to install in the building that long housed a Souplantation within Mira Mesa Shopping Center, but we are receiving word that project is no longer moving forward.
The next location of Shake Shack will open later next year in the redeveloped space fronting the incoming The Campus at Horton within the currently under development Horton Plaza Park in downtown San Diego. The incoming Shake Shack will a part of the long-planned Horton Plaza Food Hall, which will house 6-9 restaurant kiosks, including three standalone, and a huge outdoor dining patio on a one-acre revamped section of Horton Plaza Park. Sprouts Farmers Market, upscale beautician Salon Republic, boutique fitness company Studio Three Fitness, and Los Angeles-based Sweetgreen are also opening as part of the Campus at Horton.
Originally founded by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, which owns and operates some of New York City’s most celebrated restaurants including Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, Maialino, North End Grill, Blue Smoke, and Marta - Shake Shack started out as a food cart inside NYC's Madison Square Park in 2004 and has since pioneered the creation of a "fine casual" category in restaurants. Shake Shack now has more than 400 locations around the world and is continuing an aggressive expansion.
