San Diego's 11-year-old Best Pizza & Brew chain of restaurants is continuing to expand with an incoming nearly 3,000 square-foot eatery opening later this year in Clairemont Mesa.
John Freis, Charlie Muirhead, Kelly Bowie and Angela Montion are the original owners of Pizza Nova, which began in San Diego's Point Loma in 1990, and founded Best Pizza & Brew in Mira Mesa in 2013. Childhood friends Joey Freis and Mitchell Millar have since purchased and taken over the Best Pizza brand. The company has since opened additional San Diego locations in Cardiff, Carmel Mountain, Oceanside, Mira Mesa, Vista, and inside SnapDragon Stadium, with another branch expected to open this March in Escondido. The company is also working on a Murrieta restaurant.
The newest area branch of Best Pizza & Brew will soon install as part of the expansion of Balboa Plaza Pad expansion in Clairemont Mesa, which will also house locations of Urbane Cafe and Buffalo Wild Wings. Like other Best Pizza & Brew outposts, incoming restaurant will have an industrial feel with large roll up garage doors, several fire pits, and an outdoor patio. The menu will offer appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza by the slice and whole pie, and desserts, as well as plenty of taps pouring beer and hard beverages.
