Big Oven Pizza Replacing Mom & Dom's In San Diego's Kearny Mesa

With Mom & Dom's Pizza closing soon after nearly two decades in business, three-year-old pop-up pizzeria Big Oven Pizza will takeover the space in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. 

At month's end, Mom & Dom's Pizza will close its doors in San Diego's Kearny Mesa after 18 years in business. The restaurant is operated by Gracie (Mom) and her Italian immigrant husband, 86-year-old Dom, and the couple is now ready to retire.  

Taking over the space is Ralph Kreidly, a lifelong pizzaioli who has been operating his award-winning Big Oven Pizza as a mobile pizza business for the past three years. His concept has been voted top five pizzas in San Diego two years in a row and last year won best food truck by Best of San Diego. 

When it opens this spring, Big Oven Pizza will have an open kitchen where customers can watch as New York-style pizza, Neapolitan brick-oven varieties and Detroit-style square pizza are made right in front of them. The restaurant will also offer a menu of fresh made sub sandwiches prepared on fresh house-baked bread and daily pizza specials. The restaurant will also serve a menu of draft beer and have .
