South Bay's SEA180° Coastal Tavern To Become New Location Of Toasted Gastrobrunch Combined With Roppongi Restaurant Revival

February 27, 2024

After a decade in business, SEA180° Coastal Tavern will soon serve its last meals in San Diego's Imperial Beach and will become a combined location of Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza's Toasted Gastrobrunch and Roppongi restaurant concepts.

In early 2014, David and Lesley Cohn of San Diego's Cohn Restaurant Group partnered with Bleu Boheme founding chef Ken Irvine for the opening of SEA180° Coastal Tavern on the ground level of the Pier South $28 million boutique hotel, a member of Marriott's Autograph collection. After 10 successful years operating the beachside restaurant, the space will soon be taken over by Sammy's Woodfired Pizza founder Sami Ladeki, who will use the 10,000 square-foot Imperial Beach site for a third branch of his Toasted Gastrobrunch morning-focused restaurant and a revival of his once-popular Roppongi Japanese fusion eatery.

"We loved our time in Imperial Beach," commented David Cohn. "It’s a great community that more San Diegans should get to know. Our lease was coming up and it was time for us to move on to other opportunities."
SEA180° Coastal Tavern will serve its last meals on Easter Sunday, March 31, and Ladeki will take possession of the expansive space for a seamless transition the following day. Toasted Gastrobrunch will immediately launch with a menu centered around brunch fare, including eclectic-topped toasts, pancakes, Benedicts, sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and unique egg dishes like smoked beef brisket hash with sunny side-ups. The restaurant will also have a full bar with craft cocktails, mimosas, wine and beer. This will be the fourth outpost of Toasted Gastrobrunch, with other locations sited in Las Vegas, Oceanside, CA, and La Mesa.

By this summer, Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar will revive at Pier South. Ladeki operated Roppongi successfully in La Jolla for 17 years, but rising rents made him reconsider keeping his Japanese fusion eatery alive, and he closed it in 2015. When it opens later this year, expect Asian fare with French-style execution, with a tapas bar meets sushi lounge menu.

Toasted Gastrobrunch is expected to open on April 1 with Roppongi scheduled for this summer, both sited at 800 Seacoast Drive in San Diego's South County city of Imperial Beach. For more information, visit piersouthresort.com
