Rizers Pizza Bringing NJ-Style Pizzeria Back To San Diego's Pacific Beach

March 4, 2024

Grand opening later this week in the space that last housed Hoboken Pizza in San Diego's Pacific Beach is Rizers Pizza, a New Jersey-style pizzeria and bar.

After more than 20 years in business, Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint announced its permanently closure in San Diego's Pacific Beach in January. Named after the city in Northern New Jersey where Frank Sinatra was born and raised, Hoboken Pizza & Beer Joint was founded by NJ-native Anthony Kruk in 2003. The restaurant served an East Coast-style pizzeria menu featuring pizza by the slice and whole pie, calzones, stromboli, sandwiches, pasta and other appetizers.

After Hoboken Pizza's closure, the space was quickly scooped up by Thank You San Diego, a newly formed restaurant group from Mark Slattery, Paul Lyones, Steve Pure and Seth Dominque, which also owns Riptides Bar & Grill in Pacific Beach. New ownership has renovated the space, brought back most of Hoboken Pizza's staff, and they're ready to reopen as Rizers Pizza.

Rizers Pizza has worked to keep the flavors and items the community enjoyed from Hoboken, while focusing on bringing the pizza crust back to the thinness and characteristic crack of a proper New Jersey pizza. In addition to round and square pizza styles by the slice and whole pie, Rizers will offer additional items like pasta, cold and hot subs, appetizers, and salads. From the bar, expect a selection of beers on tap, as well as cans, bottles and a selection of wine.

Rizers Pizza will host its grand opening on Saturday, March 9 at 1459 Garnet Avenue in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit rizerspizza.com.
