With more than 2,000 restaurants around the globe, China-based Wei's Fish will soon bring sauerkraut fish soup to America's Finest City with the opening of the first San Diego location.
Wei's Fish was established in Beijing, China, in early 2017. Known in China as Yu Nee Zai Yee Chee, Wei's Fish has quickly expanded around the world, now boasting more than 2,000 outlets in over 360 cities. The company is in the process of taking over the space currently occupied by Shentan BBQ on Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa to open its first San Diego outpost.
Wei's Fish specializes in Suan Cai Yu, or sauerkraut fish soup, which is a Sichuan-style pickled vegetable and fish soup mentioned in ancient texts over 3,000 years ago. The soup features boneless fish fillets water-boiled in a tangy and slighly spicy broth which is richly infused with the pickled mustard greens. The restaurants also offer a selection of small plates and unlimited serve-your-own rice available from multiple rice cookers. The San Diego location will also have a beer and wine license.
