Detroit's Iconic Jet's Pizza Opening First California Location In San Diego's North Park

April 29, 2024

Known as a pioneer of the now-famous Detroit-style pizza, Jet's Pizza will soon open its first California location in San Diego's North Park.

Jet's Pizza started in 1978 when brothers Eugene and John Jetts opened their first pizzeria in the Sterling Heights suburb of Detroit. Armed with a passion for pizza-making and a desire to offer something unique to their customers, Jet's Pizza gained a reputation for its delicious, square-shaped pies, known for their crispy, cheesy crusts and flavorful toppings. In the years that followed, Jet's Pizza expanded its presence across Michigan, opening new locations in cities like Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids.

Today, Jet's Pizza has become a household name, with over 400 locations across 22 states around the United States. Detroit native and Jet's Pizza franchisee Sean Gowdy has recently taken over the space that last housed the short-lived Long Story Short restaurant on University Avenue in San Diego's North Park to open the company's first California location.

Jet's Pizza offers a variety of pizzas, including their signature Detroit-style deep-dish square pizzas with toppings like pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and more. Additionally, they typically have options for thin-crust round pizzas, as well as specialty pizzas such as BBQ Chicken, All Meaty, and Veggie. Their menu also includes salads, Jet's Bread breadsticks, Jet's Wings, and sides like cinnamon stick and Jet's Boats mini calzones. The San Diego branch will also have a beer and wine license.

Jet's Pizza is expected to open by year's end at 3017 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit jetspizza.com and check out the sample menu below.
