El Zarape Mexican Cantina is being evicted from its longtime space on Adams Avenue in San Diego's Normal Heights.
Maritza Briceño opened the original El Zarape on Park Boulevard in University Heights in 1997. Along with her husband, the couple opened El Zarape Taqueria in Normal Heights in 2009. The Normal Heights branch at 3201 Adams Avenue has changed hands a couple times over its 15 years in business, most recently owned by Daniel Garibay Castro and Shaker Khan.
A notice to vacate posted on El Zarape's door states that the restaurant must vacate the unit and give up possession of the property by Tuesday, May 28. A location of El Zarape Mexican Eatery at 3038 Adams Avenue in North Park, which opened in 2016, remains in business and is still operated by original founder Maritza Briceno. The original branch at 4642 Park Boulevard is now owned by Jesus Fuentes Vasquez and is still open.
