Kettner Exchange Team Officially Takes Over Wolfie's Carousel In San Diego's Little Italy

June 24, 2024

Wolfie's Carousel Bar & French Bistro has ended its run in San Diego's Little Italy, and the restaurant has officially been taken over by Kettner Exchange ownership to reopen this summer as Wilma's Carousel Bar.

We reported last week that Wolfie's Carousel Bar would close after end of service on Sunday, June 23. As believed, it has now been confirmed that SDCM Restaurant Group, which owns and operates next door Camino Rivera, among other area establishments, is taking over and rebranding the concept.

SDCM proprietor Matt Spencer has purchased the business from Wolfie's founder Mauricio Couturier, who originally named the establishment after his son when it opened in 2020. Spencer will change the name to Wilma's Carousel Bar in honor of his grandmother. The 2,500 square-foot bar will remain shuttered for a month or two and reopen later this summer after receiving an interior refresh from Costa Mesa-based design group Davis Ink, who also helped Spencer in the construction of both Grass Skirt and Captain's Quarter in Pacific Beach.

At Wilma's Carousel Bar, the central merry-go-round circular bar will remain in place, but the restaurant will get a new menu from SDCM corporate chef Brian Redzikowski and beverage director Eric Johnson. Expect a Cajun-French influence to pay homage to the bar that served as inspiration, the Carousel Bar & Lounge at Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Highlights include ranch labneh with crudites, Philly beef toast with raclette and caramelized onion, a white negroni sbagliato, and the Bijou, a pre-Prohibition classic.

Wilma's Carousel is expected to open in late summer at 2401 Kettner Boulevard, Suite B, in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, follow Wilma's Carousel on Instagram.
