Giorgio Kirylo, a former Marine and passionate San Diego community activist, has tragically passed away at the age of 38.
Giorgio "George" Kirylo, was born June 1, 1986. After a career as a member of the elite United States Marine Forces Special Operations Command, he retired from the military in 2021 after multiple combat deployments. He then redirected his focus from battles overseas to addressing the challenges in his home city of San Diego, particularly those within what he deemed to be a broken governmental system.
Giorgio's journey through a convoluted active duty and veteran military health care system, while coping with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other combat-related trauma, shaped his mission to help others. His experiences provided him with a unique perspective and a deep sense of purpose, which he dedicated to advocating for change and support for fellow veterans.
A longtime resident of San Diego's East Village, Giorgio was a well-known and sometimes controversial figure. He was unwavering in his commitment to speak out against local government inaction, especially concerning the issue of homelessness. His advocacy and relentless pursuit of justice made him a significant voice in the community, frequently being featured on news stations and as a speaker at city council meetings.
