The nightclub's name, Good Night John Boy, is a tribute to The Waltons, one of the most popular shows on TV in the early 1970s. At the end of each episode, the Walton family would say goodnight to one another before falling asleep, with John Boy being the main character. The phrase, "Good Night, John Boy," was one of the most popular sayings in the 1970s.
Good Night John Boy will grand open in Downtown San Diego on Saturday, August 17. The 11,000 square-foot space will transport guests to the funky and groovy era of the 1970s, with an ambiance reminiscent of a grandparents' basement meets Studio 54. Patrons can expect a vibrant space adorned with beloved icons (like Burt Reynolds or Farrah Fawcett) while era-appropriate shag carpet, wood paneling, linoleum flooring, and retro wallpaper accent the interior. Nightly live DJ performances will encourage guest do dance the night away amidst groovy tunes, spinning disco balls, and a sea of radiant neon lights via the custom LED-lit dance floor.
Expect a savory approachable menu of four different pizzas (also available gluten free) from the brand's new food partner, the Midwest based hotspot Sexton’s, who will also be providing the brand’s signature Johnny Meal (a take on a McDonald's HappY Meal), which includes choice between Sexton’s signature burger or house battered chicken tenders, fries, and a take home toy.
Signature libations will include the Dirty Ashtray (Miller High Life loaded with Tapatio, lime, salt & pepper, and mezcal sidecar), Hot Stuff (Tequila mango marg w/ subtle heat & Tajin rim), Mood Ring (818 Tequila Blanco based cherry limeade topped with Art of Sucre edible glitter bomb), and the Disco Punch (SelvaRey based rum punch served in take-home disco cup) alongside a range of beers, seltzers, energy drinks, and bottle service.
