San Diego’s award-winning urban winery, Gianni Buonomo Vintners, has officially relocated from Ocean Beach to a new facility in Point Loma and is ready to open its doors.
Founded by longtime Ocean Beach resident Keith Rolle, Gianni Buonomo Vintners originally opened on Newport Avenue in early 2016. Rolle, who transitioned to professional winemaking just two years earlier, quickly gained recognition when his wines won double gold and bronze medals at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Competing against heavyweights from Napa and Sonoma, Rolle's submissions included two rare varietals, Charbono and Blaufränkisch, making his accolades even more impressive.
The winery moved out of its Ocean Beach location on July 31, with Rolle citing economic factors as the primary reason. A significant rent increase of 20% by the landlord made staying at the original location unsustainable. The new space, located just three miles away in the Sports Arena area of Point Loma, has undergone a remodel and is now ready to welcome guests. The updated facility features a 40-foot tasting bar, a lounge area, a warehouse for case goods and barrel storage, and a parking lot that accommodates 18 vehicles. To complement the wine experience, the winery will regularly host food trucks.
Gianni Buonomo Vintners will open its new location on September 21 at 3492 Pickett Street in San Diego's Sports Arena area. For more details, visit GBVintners.com.
