International Market & Grill In La Jolla Announces Closure After Three Decades Serving San Diego

After three decades of serving the La Jolla community, International Market & Grill has announced its impending closure.

The closure of International Market & Grill will follow the expiration of its lease in February 2025, marking the end of an era for this Persian grocery store and restaurant. In a heartfelt announcement posted at the restaurant, founders Houshang Dehghan and Mitra Zenhari shared their reflections on the journey that began 30 years ago.

"We started this restaurant with the aim that food was not only to be eaten but thoroughly enjoyed,” they wrote. "We have been successful in this mission. Not only have we been named one of the best restaurants in San Diego by San Diego Home and Garden Magazine, but we have gained a loyal base of everyday customers who have become our close friends."

Located within Villa La Jolla Plaza, International Market & Grill has long been a go-to spot for fresh, flavorful Mediterranean dishes, from kabobs and falafel to shawarma. For those who have called International Market & Grill a favorite, now is the time to stop by, savor a meal, and celebrate the legacy of this cherished restaurant before it closes its doors in February 2025. As the lease draws to a close, Dehghan and Zenhari, citing their age, have made the difficult decision to retire.

'We will be retiring and closing the restaurant," they wrote. "We are sorry for any disappointment and hardship this may cause and please know that we are just as sad to be leaving this wonderful community. As they say, all good things must come to an end."

As the community prepares to bid farewell to this beloved eatery, customers still have a few months to visit and enjoy the flavors that have made International Market & Grill a La Jolla institution. For now, Houshang and Mitra leave their patrons with a warm message of gratitude: "May God bless you and your families."

International Market & Grill is located at 3211 Holiday Court, Unit 100, in La Jolla.
