My Yard Live Brewery & Restaurant Set To Close In San Diego's North County After 5 Years In Business

After five years of serving as a gathering spot for North County San Diego, My Yard Live, the unique 17,000-square-foot brewery, restaurant, beer garden, arcade, and family-friendly venue, is set to close.

Opened in 2019, My Yard Live transformed a former Hometown Buffet in San Marcos into a lively indoor-outdoor space that quickly became a favorite for locals. Founded by industry veterans Jamie Minotti and Mark McLarry, who previously operated the country’s largest solar-powered stage company, along with partners George McKerrow (founder of Longhorn Steakhouse) and Freddy Bensch (co-founder of Atlanta's SweetWater Brewing), My Yard Live was designed to provide an all-ages experience, with entertainment options ranging from live music to arcade games.

The venue featured a 20-barrel brewhouse, full-service bar, indoor arcade, and multiple outdoor areas equipped with a playground, firepits, and lawn games. Over the years, the space hosted numerous events for local groups, non-profits, and charities. Head Brewer Ben "Shaggy" Blaney, who formerly worked at Mason Ale Works, crafted award-winning beers onsite, including the popular West Coast Pilsner from the 4DUDESBREW series. This special beer series, produced in collaboration with employees and friends with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has generated donations for various local charities over the past three years.

My Yard Live wasn't just a restaurant or brewery - it was a space built to foster community connections. Minotti and McLarry envisioned it as a community hub where patrons of all ages could gather and enjoy a unique blend of high-quality food, craft beer, and family-friendly entertainment. The City of San Marcos, which owns the building, has been a supportive partner in this endeavor, as have loyal patrons who showed up through both good times and challenging periods, like the pandemic.

The San Marcos community was at the heart of My Yard Live’s mission. Over the years, the venue reinvested over $100,000 into North County, supporting causes ranging from medical assistance to youth programs, schools, and sports leagues. The team also built partnerships with local schools and regional centers, creating work opportunities for people with disabilities.

Reflecting on the journey, ownership noted that, while My Yard Live saw a strong start, the pandemic and rising operational costs in California created ongoing challenges. With no immediate decision on the future of the site or its assets, discussions are ongoing between the City of San Marcos and My Yard Live's founders, who are open to inquiries from interested parties.

My Yard Live’s closure has prompted an outpouring of support from patrons and community members who have enjoyed the venue’s welcoming atmosphere, live music, and community events. For those who have cherished memories at My Yard Live, this final week offers a chance to visit and celebrate the venue one last time.

The final day of business for My Yard Live will be November 15, 2024. For more information and updates, visit myyardlive.com.
