Oregon's Cult Favorite Dutch Bros Coffee Opens Fifth San Diego Location In North County

Oregon-based Dutch Bros Coffee, known for its team of "broistas" and extensive menu of coffee and energy drinks, has opened a new location in North County San Diego.

Founded by brothers Travis and Dane Boersma in 1992, Dutch Bros Coffee began as a pushcart with a double-head espresso machine in Grants Pass, Oregon. Today, the company operates over 800 primarily drive-through locations across the U.S., with ambitious plans to expand to 4,000 in the coming years.

Originally inspired while working on their family’s dairy farm, the brothers launched the coffee chain that went public in 2021 and is now one of Oregon's most valuable companies. Following Dane Boersma's passing from Lou Gehrig's disease in 2009, Dutch Bros has held an annual "Drink One for Dane" fundraiser benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The first Dutch Bros in San Diego County opened in Oceanside in August 2022, quickly becoming the chain's top-grossing store. Since then, additional locations have opened in Escondido, Vista, and El Cajon, with the newest branch unveiled this week at 507 West Washington Avenue in Escondido.
As at other Dutch Bros locations, guests can expect a "good vibes" and "Dutch Luv" culture with a menu featuring customizable coffees, energy drinks, teas, smoothies, hot cocoa, freezes, sodas, and the brand's signature Dutch Bros Blue Rebel energy drink, plus a "not-so-secret" menu. As for food, options are limited to three different muffin top options and a granola bar.

More San Diego County branches are on the way, with new locations planned for 1025 East Bobier Drive in Vista, 1950 Hacienda Drive in Vista, 1606 East Plaza Boulevard in National City, and Kennedy Street & Third Avenue in Chula Vista. The brand intends to continue to expand around the San Diego area.
