Sipz, originally founded in 2006 in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood by Huynh and Sylvia Le, had long been a staple in the North Park community since its expansion there in 2011. Known for offering healthy vegetarian and vegan Asian fusion cuisine, the brand operated additional branches in Kearny Mesa and La Jolla before ultimately consolidating its presence. Earlier this year, the North Park space transitioned under new management by Stuart Schaffer and William Sutjiadi, who are also behind Salt & Butter bakery, a spinoff of the Japanese bakery brand Okayama Kobo.
The Rising Sun Collective promises to bring a fresh blend of Japanese culinary traditions and modern flavors to the North Park area. Salt & Butter Bakery will anchor the venue with its preservative-free, freshly baked goods made from 100% Hokkaido flour, alongside offerings from Matcha Cafe Maiko, including handcrafted matcha and hojicha teas.
Customers can also enjoy a rotating menu of Japanese panini sandwiches, shokupan pizzas, and hearty Asian-fusion dinner options, along with $3 Happy Hour brews from Embolden Beer Company and New Motion Beverages. Dinner bites feature Japanese-inspired, hearty Asian-Fusion cuisine, including soups, noodle and rice dishes, and a selection vegan fare by Sipz Vegetarian Kitchen.
