Aaron Phillips, a long-standing figure in Pacific Beach’s nightlife scene, first made waves in 2011 with The Beachwood, a lively beach bar that later evolved into El Prez. Known for its vibrant rooftop overlooking the ocean, El Prez became a staple for Mexican-inspired drinks and bites. Phillips and his Pacific Beach Restaurant Group also helm local favorites like Truckstop, PB Avenue, Woody's, Candy’s Boom Room, and the tropical-themed Flamingo Deck.
El Prez closed in early 2024 to undergo a full redesign. The revamped space, located in the Promenade at Pacific Beach, is now The Beverly Beach Garden. Inspired by California’s coastal elegance with a touch of Tulum-style flair, the new venue aims to offer a refined yet relaxed setting. The restaurant and rooftop lounge feature lush garden decor, central fire pits, and sweeping ocean views, catering to beachgoers and those seeking a more upscale beachside dining experience.
Leading the kitchen is Chef Lizzie Lopez, who brings a fresh, coastal-inspired menu featuring innovative dishes and local ingredients. Highlights from the menu include Wagyu Taquitos with sour cream mousse, radish, iceberg lettuce, and aged cotija cheese; Birria Dumplings filled with slow-cooked beef, Morita chili oil, and avocado; Swordfish Tiradito featuring seared swordfish, kimchi aioli, and Spanish Mery sauce; The Cali Taco with grilled skirt steak, truffle fries, and jalapeño cilantro aioli; and Sugar-Spiced Salmon with mascarpone mashed potatoes and Chinese green beans. Dessert options include cream cheese churros with brown sugar ice cream, passion fruit crème brûlée, and a matcha tres leches cake.
The Beverly Beach Garden officially opens its doors on Thursday, November 7, at 4190 Mission Boulevard in Pacific Beach. For more details, visit thebeverlypb.com and check out the menu below.
