'Elf' & 'Friday' Actor Faizon Love Accused Of Assaulting San Diego Hotel Employee

A hotel employee in San Diego has filed a lawsuit against actor and comedian Faizon Love, alleging he attacked her, causing a concussion. The incident has led to a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon against Love, with an active arrest warrant issued after he failed to appear in court.

According to the filings, Faizon Andre Love, 56, arrived at the Sheraton Mission Valley hotel one evening in August 2024 after booking a room through a third-party app, only to be informed by staff that no vacancy was available and that he should seek a refund from the app. The criminal complaint alleges Love became aggressive, forcefully removing the credit card reader from its mount with both hands and throwing it at female receptionist, Elizabeth Renderos, striking the left side of her head and shattering her glasses.
The San Diego Police Department reported that Renderos sought medical attention the following day, where she was diagnosed with a concussion. The San Diego District Attorney filed the criminal case in late September 2024, and an arrest warrant was issued the following month. Love has not yet entered a plea, as he remains at large.

Renderos' lawsuit, filed this past Tuesday by her attorneys Batta Fulkerson Law Group, seeks compensation for medical bills and the physical and emotional distress she endured. Following the alleged incident, Love posted on Instagram, labeling the hotel booking app a "scam."
Faizon Love, born Langston Faizon Santisima in Santiago de Cuba in 1968, is a well-known figure in Hollywood. He rose to fame in the 1990s with his breakout role as Big Worm in the 1995 cult classic Friday, alongside Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, cementing his status as a comedic icon.

Love's filmography also includes memorable performances in Elf (2003), The Replacements (2000), and Couples Retreat (2009). His television credits include appearances on The Parent ’Hood, The Steve Harvey Show, and Black-ish, as well as voice roles in animated series like The Proud Family. Locally, Love has performed stand-up comedy at San Diego venues like the American Comedy Co. and Comedy Store La Jolla.

However, Love's recent history has been marred by controversy. This isn't his first assault accusation. In 2017, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge after attacking a valet at John Glenn Columbus International Airport, an incident captured on surveillance video. He was fined $500, received a 180-day suspended jail sentence, and was ordered to pay the valet $40,000 in a civil lawsuit, plus an additional $8,679.50 in attorney fees to enforce the settlement. Another accusation surfaced in 2009, when the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reported Love allegedly attacked a man at a West Hollywood hotel.

As the investigation continues, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office are urging anyone with information about Love's whereabouts to contact authorities.
