Michelin-Starred Chef Drew Deckman To Open New Eatery At San Diego Padres' Petco Park

Michelin-starred chef Drew Deckman is set to bring his culinary expertise to San Diego's Petco Park with a new seafood-focused eatery launching for the 2025 season, marking his second venture in the city.

The upcoming restaurant, tentatively named Ballast Point Baja Draft by Deckman's, will occupy the existing Ballast Point space within the stadium and is slated to debut in time for upcoming Padres season. This development builds on Deckman's successful collaboration with Padres All-Star pitcherMusgrove, who played a key role as an investor in the chef's first San Diego restaurant, 31ThirtyOne, which opened in North Park in August 2024.

Deckman's entry into the San Diego dining scene began with 31ThirtyOne, a globally-inspired restaurant launched in partnership with a team of investors, including Musgrove, a San Diego native celebrated for throwing the Padres' first no-hitter on April 9, 2021. Located at 3131 University Avenue, the 4,200-square-foot venue features a multi-level design with a main dining area, private dining space, and an open-air bar, offering a tasting menu and a la carte options that highlight local seafood, seasonal produce, and meats sourced from San Diego and Baja California. The restaurant’s opening marked a significant milestone for Deckman, who earned Michelin stars for his Baja California establishments, Deckman's en El Mogor and Conchas de Piedra, and brought his farm-to-table philosophy to North Park with support from Musgrove and other local culinary talents.

The new Petco Park eatery will feature a menu centered on seafood, including oysters served raw with cilantro cocktail sauce or roasted with guajillo chile butter, a variety of ceviches with options like zero by-catch shrimp and market fish, and plates such as Baja-style fish tacos and fried oyster tortas. Diners can also expect vegetarian ceviche and unique sides like "dirty" Baja fries topped with shrimp ceviche and queso fundido. This venture reflects Deckman’s commitment to sustainable, regionally sourced ingredients, a principle he has honed through his international culinary career, including a Michelin-starred tenure in Germany before establishing his reputation in Mexico.

The new eatery aims to enhance the game-day experience for Padres fans, offering a taste of Deckman’s acclaimed cuisine in a setting tied to the team's legacy. Specific opening dates and additional details about the restaurant’s operations within the stadium are still pending, but it represents another step in Deckman’s expansion within San Diego, following the success of 31ThirtyOne.
