Armed Robbery At Cesarina Restaurant In San Diego's Point Loma: Suspect In Custody

An armed robbery reportedly took place on Saturday night at Cesarina Italian restaurant in San Diego's Point Loma neighborhood, but the suspect was quickly apprehended and is now in police custody.

On the evening of Saturday, May 3, 2025, a tense situation unfolded in San Diego’s Point Loma neighborhood during an armed robbery at Cesarina, a beloved Italian restaurant at 4103 Voltaire Street. The incident began around 10:29 PM, causing patrons to flee in fear after the suspect brandished a firearm, per witness accounts—though some witnesses noted the gun appeared to be fake, possibly an airsoft toy gun.

"You're not gonna get hurt, but give me the f'n money," the suspect was reported as saying upon entry into the popular Italian eatery.

A Citizen app user's video captured a group of people running down the street after a man allegedly displayed what appeared to be a firearm inside the restaurant, demanding money from employees. Eyewitnesses and frantic patrons confirmed the gun incident at Cesarina, with the suspect last seen in the kitchen by 10:35pm. San Diego Police quickly responded, initially believing the suspect may have fled on foot. By 10:40pm, authorities were actively searching for the suspect, described as wearing a black hat and gray hoodie, who was believed to be fleeing in a white Chevy near South Calvary Boulevard.

At 10:41pm, police initiated a high-risk traffic stop on Nimitz Boulevard, where the suspect was reportedly compliant, exiting his truck with hands visible. A witness confirmed the vehicle, and by 10:43pm, the suspect was taken into custody. Medics were requested to treat the suspect for a head injury sustained during the incident, and the vehicle was cleared of further threats. Police later clarified that the suspect likely exited through Cesarina's back door to reach his truck parked nearby, having jumped a fence in the process. As of 10:45pm, officers were searching the area to locate the firearm involved in the robbery.

"On Saturday evening, around 10:30 p.m. as we were closing, something unimaginable happened," read an Instagram post from Cesarina. "An armed individual entered our restaurant and demanded money before fleeing. We are beyond grateful for the immediate and effective response of the San Diego Police Department, who apprehended the suspect shortly after. Most importantly, we are overwhelmingly relieved to share that no one was harmed during this terrifying incident. It’s hard to put into words how absurd and unexpected this was, not only for those present but for our entire Cesarina family. While the experience was deeply unsettling, we want to be clear: we will not let fear prevent us from doing what we love most – taking care of each other and our incredible community through delicious food and love. We will remain vigilant and continue to take every necessary measure to ensure Cesarina remains a safe and welcoming space for our team, our community, and every single person who walks through our doors. Thank you for your unwavering support."

Cesarina, known for its authentic Italian cuisine and warm atmosphere, has been a beloved staple in Point Loma, making this incident particularly shocking for the community. No injuries to patrons or staff were reported, though the emotional impact on those present is likely significant. There is no word on if the suspect made off with any cash or property from the premises.

The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather further details. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
