The upcoming location of Taco Centro will take over the ground-floor space of the AV8 Apartment Building on Kettner Boulevard, most recently home to the short-lived burger concept Bun & Patti. Helmed by Adrian Gutierrez, whose family has deep roots in the restaurant industry, Taco Centro offers a contemporary twist on the traditional taco stalls found in markets and neighborhoods across Mexico. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant street food scenes of cities like Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Tijuana, the concept offers an elevated but authentic culinary experience that stays true to its cultural origins.
The Little Italy space, which includes floor-to-ceiling windows and indoor-outdoor seating potential, fits seamlessly into Taco Centro's aesthetic of open kitchens, vibrant Mexican colors, and fast-casual accessibility. Diners can expect a menu centered on hand-pressed corn tortillas, birria tacos, burritos, quesadillas, smothered fries, elote, and rotating local craft beers. Desserts like churros and paletas will also return, as well as a variety of Mexican sodas and fresh aguas frescas.
The original Taco Centro, located at 539 Island Avenue in the Gaslamp, opened in 2022 and quickly developed a loyal following thanks to its late-night hours, bold flavors, and lively atmosphere. The decision to expand into Little Italy marks a significant step forward for the brand, bringing its signature take on Mexican street food to one of San Diego’s most competitive and culinary-driven neighborhoods.
Taco Centro is expected to open later this year at 2171 Kettner Boulevard in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visit tacocentrosd.com.
