Crack Taco Shop Bringing Its Famous Tri-Tip Tacos To Coronado’s Orange Avenue

San Diego-based Crack Taco Shop, known for its crave-worthy "Cardiff Crack" tri-tip and bold takes on Mexican street food, is expanding once again - this time bringing its artisan taco fare to the heart of Coronado.

Public records confirm that Crack Taco Shop will open a new outpost on Orange Avenue in the space formerly occupied by Poké 123, just steps from MooTime Creamery and Garage Buona Forchetta. This will be the fourth location for the taqueria, which has built a loyal following since debuting in 2019.

Founded by the team behind Cardiff’s iconic Seaside Market, Crack Taco Shop celebrates the same commitment to high-quality, flavorful ingredients that made the "Cardiff Crack" burgundy pepper tri-tip a local cult favorite. The tri-tip, marinated and grilled to perfection, anchors many of the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

The menu spans a wide variety of options including tacos, burritos, breakfast items, nachos, quesadillas, bowls, and vegetarian offerings like cactus and potato. Crack Taco also emphasizes freshness across the board - house-made tortillas, daily-prepped salsas and guacamole, and a drink selection that includes beer, wine, sangria, and specialty micheladas.

The Coronado expansion joins existing Crack Taco locations in Mission Valley and Seaport Village, with another branch also in development in Encinitas at 110 Leucadia Boulevard. According to city permit filings and environmental health records, preparations for the Coronado shop are underway, though no official opening date has been announced.

Set along Orange Avenue’s bustling commercial strip, the Coronado location is ideally situated for foot traffic from both tourists and locals. With the Hotel del Coronado and beach just blocks away and popular neighbors like Clayton’s Mexican Takeout drawing steady crowds, the area provides high visibility and year-round demand.

Crack Taco Shop is expected to open later this year at 1009 Orange Avenue in Coronado. For more information, visit cracktacoshop.com.
