Man Killed, Woman Injured In Early Morning Shooting Outside San Diego Hookah Lounge

A 21-year-old man is dead and a 37-year-old woman injured following a shooting outside a San Diego hookah lounge early Friday morning, prompting a homicide investigation and renewed concerns about public safety in the area.

San Diego Police responded to the scene around 4:40 am on June 20, after receiving reports of gunfire in the parking lot of the Nara Ultra Hookah Lounge located at 8065 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, just east of the Convoy Street intersection. Officers found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital, where the man was later pronounced dead. The woman was treated and has since been released.

According to SDPD acting homicide Lieutenant Joel Tien, an altercation broke out during an event taking place at the hookah lounge, which ultimately led to the shooting. Police believe a large number of people were present at the time of the incident, but many had fled by the time officers arrived. Authorities are urging any witnesses to come forward.

The suspect, described only as a Black man in his 20s, fled the scene in an unknown vehicle. No arrests have been made as of Friday afternoon, and investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage, interviewing potential witnesses, and collecting evidence at the scene.

Detectives are also looking into a prior incident reported at the same venue last August, although it remains unclear whether there is any connection to this latest act of violence.

The name of the deceased victim is being held pending family notification. SDPD's Homicide Unit is urging anyone with information to call 619.531.2293 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 888.580.8477 or at sdcrimestoppers.org .

The investigation remains ongoing.
