‘The Book of Mormon’ Returns To San Diego With $25 Digital Lottery For Civic Theatre Run

The hit musical The Book of Mormon is coming back to San Diego for a limited run at the Civic Theatre from Tuesday, June 10 through Sunday, June 15 - and with it comes a chance for theatergoers to score coveted tickets for just $25 through a digital lottery system.

Winners of nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon has earned a reputation for combining razor-sharp satire with unforgettable songs, drawing capacity crowds across the globe. Now, San Diegans have an opportunity to experience the Broadway sensation without breaking the bank.

A limited number of $25 tickets will be made available for each performance through the official Broadway San Diego App. The lottery opens at 10am the day before each performance and closes at 3pm the same day. Entrants will be notified by email if selected and have one hour to complete their purchase. Seats are assigned at the discretion of the ticket office and are non-transferable.

The digital lottery has been a signature offering on the national tour, sometimes drawing hundreds of hopeful entrants per performance in other cities. The production’s creators say the goal is to make high-caliber theatre more accessible and inclusive.
The Broadway blockbuster was created by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Robert Lopez, co-creator of Avenue Q and Frozen. San Diego's own Casey Nicholaw, a two-time Tony Award winner, co-directed the original production and choreographed the show, adding a local connection to the international phenomenon.

The Book of Mormon has racked up awards across the board, including a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, and continues to win over audiences with its outrageous humor, heartfelt moments, and Broadway-quality spectacle. With a cast, crew, and creative team that includes multiple Tony Award winners across all design disciplines, this national tour maintains the same energy and polish that made the original a smash hit.

Performances will take place at the San Diego Civic Theatre, located at 1100 Third Avenue downtown. Standard tickets are available now through official box office outlets, but the lottery remains the best bet for those hoping to see the show at a steep discount.
