San Diego's Harland Brewing Expands Culinary Program With New Director And Incoming 4S Ranch Restaurant

San Diego’s Harland Brewing is stepping up its food game in a big way. The fast-growing brewery has hired veteran chef Scott Cannon as its new Director of Culinary Operations to oversee and evolve its food offerings at both its cozy South Park taproom and a forthcoming restaurant and tasting room in 4S Ranch.

Cannon joins Harland after nearly a decade as Executive Chef at The Cork & Craft in Rancho Bernardo, a venue lauded for seamlessly pairing inventive cuisine with craft beer and wine. His fine-dining pedigree includes stints at L’Auberge Del Mar, Jake’s Del Mar, and Delicias, where he earned a reputation for thoughtful, flavor-forward dishes. At Harland, he will lead menu development and kitchen operations across the company's expanding hospitality footprint, bringing elevated but approachable cuisine to the brewery's fans.

Harland’s first restaurant venture opened quietly in late 2022 inside a converted 1920s-era building in South Park, formerly home to Grant’s Market & Coffee Room. That location now operates as a neighborhood café and tavern-style taproom, serving breakfast and all-day fare alongside Harland’s signature beers. The menu includes hits like Hoyt’s Tacos, named after the late filmmaker and co-founder of Starlite, and the indulgent Smash Hash breakfast sandwich, plus the Harland Burger with double patties, house sauce, and caramelized onions.

Now, with Cannon on board, Harland plans to broaden its culinary ambition with a second full-scale restaurant and taproom in Rancho Bernardo's Del Sur Town Center. Slated to open before the end of the year at 16480 Paseo Del Sur, Suite 105, the 3,400-square-foot space previously housed Waypoint Public and Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant. It features a full kitchen that will allow Cannon and his team to expand beyond the South Park location’s more limited offerings.

While Harland aims to elevate its culinary program, the team is also focused on keeping their venues family-friendly and accessible, in keeping with the communities they serve. Expect inventive comfort food, sharp beer pairings, and neighborhood vibes at both locations.

Founded in 2018 under the Ocotillo Holdings umbrella, Harland Brewing currently operates a large-scale production facility in Mira Mesa and tasting rooms in Bay Park, Del Mar’s One Paseo, and South Park. The company continues to grow its presence in both the beer and hospitality scenes, now with a top-tier culinary talent guiding its next chapter.
