Hacienda Cazadores moves into the longtime Por Favor Restaurant & Cantina space on La Mesa Boulevard, a site rich with local history after hosting the Marrujo family’s popular Mexican eatery for nearly five decades. Por Favor closed in 2024, leaving the space to undergo a full transformation under the guidance of Alba Restaurant Group, the team behind neighborhood favorites such as Farmers Table La Mesa, Smokey & The Brisket, The Seventh House Speakeasy, and Limoncello.
At Hacienda Cazadores, diners can expect an elevated menu highlighting the flavors of Mexico’s northern Sonoran region. Offerings will include handmade tortillas, grilled meats, fresh seafood, and traditional recipes reimagined with a modern twist. The bar program will showcase an extensive list of tequilas and mezcals, paired with tableside salsas and cocktails crafted in a warm, hacienda-inspired setting designed to honor Mexico’s heritage while introducing something new to La Mesa.
The menu spans from bold appetizers like charred octopus in adobo, tuna tostadas, and sizzling queso fundido to hearty entrées such as zarandeado whole fish, seafood enchiladas, and pollo a las brasas. Signature Sonoran molcajetes arrive overflowing with grilled meats, chorizo, panela cheese, and roasted vegetables, while tacos are elevated with fillings like bone marrow with arrachera or pork al pastor with pineapple and salsa taquera. Dry-aged cuts of steak, including a 20-ounce ribeye, Australian wagyu, and a tomahawk ribeye aged 28 days, anchor the menu for those craving a premium steakhouse experience.
With dishes ranging from street-inspired bites to high-end cuts, Hacienda Cazadores aims to capture the depth and diversity of Sonoran cooking while offering something for every appetite. The opening marks a fresh chapter for a beloved address in East County dining, promising to blend old memories with new flavors for a community eager to embrace the next era of hospitality at this historic spot.
