Harland Brewing To Close One Paseo Location After Six Years As Company Expands Elsewhere

Another wave of change is hitting Del Mar’s One Paseo complex as Harland Brewing prepares to close its tasting room there this October after six years in business. The move comes amid a period of transition for the high-profile Carmel Valley development, which has seen a steady mix of closures, arrivals, and retools since it first debuted in 2019.

Harland confirmed the upcoming closure in a statement to SanDiegoVille, noting, "Harland One Paseo is closing in October. We are opening a full service restaurant in 4S Ranch (former Ponces location) hopefully by end of 2025!" The new project will mark a significant expansion for the brewery, building on the momentum of its South Park café-style taproom, its production facility and kitchen in Scripps Ranch, and a growing culinary program guided by veteran chef Scott Cannon.

The One Paseo location opened in 2019 as part of the first wave of tenants designed to position the development as a premier North County lifestyle hub, alongside national brands like Shake Shack and Salt & Straw and ambitious full-service restaurants like International Smoke, which closed in 2022. While One Paseo continues to attract new openings - Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Kitchen was recently announced for the former Tender Greens space, and Orange County’s Jan’s Health Bar launched earlier this year - its dining lineup has undergone significant reshuffling in just a few years, reflecting both the challenges and opportunities of maintaining a curated destination in an evolving market.

For Harland, the closure is less about retrenchment than redirection. The 4S Ranch project, located in the former home of Ponces Mexican Restaurant, will be the brewery’s most ambitious venture yet, a full-service restaurant and taproom expected to open by late 2025. It will allow Cannon and his team to expand on the elevated comfort fare already introduced at Scripps Ranch’s new Ocotillo at Harland kitchen, which launched this September with dishes like smash burgers, birria quesadillas, and seasonal specials designed to pair with the company’s craft beers.

In addition to the 4S Ranch expansion, industry chatter suggests Harland is also eyeing another new location elsewhere in San Diego County. Though details remain under wraps, the move would continue the company’s steady shift from a production-focused brewery into a hospitality-driven brand with multiple neighborhood outposts.

Founded in 2018 under the Ocotillo Holdings umbrella, Harland has grown from a local craft upstart into one of San Diego’s most recognizable breweries. The closure of its One Paseo taproom marks the end of one chapter in Carmel Valley but sets the stage for the brewery’s biggest leaps yet.

Harland Brewing will close its One Paseo location in October. The company plans to debut its new full-service restaurant at 16480 Paseo Del Sur, Suite 105, in 4S Ranch by late 2025, with another project possibly in the works for 2026. For more information, visit harlandbeer.com.
