San Diego's Copper Top Coffee & Donuts Will Close After Eight Years; Final Weekend Set In Pacific Beach

Copper Top Coffee & Donuts is nearing its last pour and final batch. The made-to-order doughnut and coffee shop announced that this will be its final week of service.

The café announced on its Instagram that doors are closing for good after service on Sunday, September 7. It will open from 7am to noon Friday through Sunday for a last sendoff with regulars.

The closure marks the end of an eight-year run for the small business, which began in Hillcrest and later reestablished in Pacific Beach. Copper Top’s current storefront is at 4636 Mission Boulevard in PB, where the shop has operated with an open-kitchen format showcasing doughnuts cooked to order.

Copper Top relocated to Mission Boulevard after shuttering its original Hillcrest drive-thru, a service model the owner previously said was difficult to pair with made-to-order doughnuts. The PB iteration expanded the coffee and espresso program while keeping the doughnut lineup customizable with housemade sauces and toppings.

Favorites over the years have included combinations like white chocolate-coconut "16 Candles" and the Elvis with peanut butter, raspberry jam, banana, and bacon, alongside breakfast sandwiches, açaí bowls, and smoothies. The brand’s website has also touted plans for fresh-squeezed juices and highlights its Pacific Beach hours and address.

Founded in 2017 and shaped by early mornings and long hours, Copper Top built a following around fresh-fried doughnuts and a neighborhood coffeehouse vibe. The company’s site references its Hillcrest beginnings and its rebirth at the beach, where it served Pacific Beach, La Jolla, and surrounding areas.

Copper Top Coffee & Donuts will be open for a final weekend service from 7am to noon, Friday through Sunday, at 4636 Mission Boulevard in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, follow @coppertopcoffee on Instagram
