Helmed by restaurateur Franklin Chou-Chan, Oi Shiba first debuted in June 2024 in Pacific Beach’s Clock Tower Plaza, bringing a playful yet elevated take on Japanese ramen culture to the coast. The restaurant’s name - a combination of the Japanese word for “delicious” (oi) and the beloved Shiba Inu dog breed - reflected its mix of charm and craftsmanship. The Pacific Beach location offered a concise but inventive menu featuring ramen bowls like spicy miso and creamy tonkotsu, alongside crispy chicken karaage, takoyaki, and signature drinks such as Hojicha milk tea, matcha lattes, and sparkling yuzu lemonade.
The space’s previous occupant, Da Nang Corner, was a family-run Vietnamese restaurant that opened in 2020, known for regional specialties like Mi Quang and Bun Bo Hue. Oi Shiba’s remodel is expected to refresh the atmosphere with a sleek, modern aesthetic and counter-style service that mirrors the ramen bars of Japan.
Oi Shiba is expected to open in the coming months at 4428 Convoy Street, Suite 120, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. For more information, visit oishiba.com.
