The newest location of Shaq's Big Chicken chain is now serving on the “wet side” of Naval Base San Diego, becoming not only the brand’s first location in the region, but its only location anywhere in the state. Situated just inside the main gate, Big Chicken sits immediately to the right after the roundabout on Surface Navy Boulevard and Robertson Street. Despite having a drive-through window, many visitors are opting to park and head inside to take in the surprisingly polished setup: a clean, modern dining room, friendly counter staff, and a pair of NBA-themed arcade games that nod to Shaq’s legendary career.
The menu matches what fans have come to expect from the national chain, which launched in 2018. Diners can order Louisiana-style fried chicken sandwiches, crispy chicken tenders, Cheez-It mac ’n’ cheese, fries, shakes, and oversized cookies, along with signature items like the “Big Aristotle” and the Nashville-hot-inspired “Uncle Jerome.” Big Chicken operates more than 30 restaurants across the country, but until now had no footprint in California.
Because the restaurant is located on a military installation, access is restricted to those who can enter Naval Base San Diego. For those who can, Big Chicken is now one of the most high-profile dining additions the base has seen in years - and a rare chance to try Shaq’s comfort-food empire without leaving the state.
Big Chicken is located at 2850 Robertson Road, Building 3405, in downtown San Diego. For more information, visit bigchicken.com.
