URBN Pizza’s North Park Run Ends February 15 As Owner Finally Confirms Closure, Announces Bar Basic’s Long-Awaited Return In San Diego's East Village

Three weeks after news surfaced that URBN Pizza’s North Park outpost would be taken over by One Of Us, a women’s sports-focused bar concept, founder Jon Mangini has finally confirmed the restaurant’s closure date and shared an update on the future of another longtime URBN brand.

In a subdued but emotional video posted to Instagram on Sunday, Mangini announced that URBN Pizza will officially close on February 15, bringing a 15-year chapter in North Park to an end. The post, shared alongside a written message thanking guests for their memories and support, emphasized that the closure marks the end of a chapter rather than a permanent goodbye.

“North Park has been a special part of our journey and played a huge role in our growth and in our success,” Mangini said in the video. “We are so grateful for everyone that supported us over the years. We’re also extremely thankful and grateful to our staff, past and present.”

URBN Pizza has been a fixture on University Avenue since 2010, helping anchor North Park’s rise as one of San Diego’s most influential dining neighborhoods. A near carbon copy of BAR in New Haven, CT, URBN was known as one of the first and only places to get authentic New Haven–style coal-fired pizzas. The restaurant became both a neighborhood staple and a launching point for the broader URBN Restaurant Inc. family, which later expanded the concept across San Diego County.

The North Park space will soon transition to One Of Us, a new bar dedicated primarily to women’s sports founded by Kalani Millsaps and Patricia Sebold. The concept has gained local traction through pop-up watch parties and aims to fill a long-identified gap in San Diego’s sports bar landscape by prioritizing women’s professional and collegiate athletics. One Of Us is expected to open at the University Avenue location later in 2026.

Alongside the closure announcement, Mangini offered an encouraging update for fans of Bar Basic, URBN’s flagship concept that vacated its longtime East Village home after its lease expired in 2024. According to Mangini, Bar Basic is now targeting a reopening in March at its new location inside the Park 12 development, ideally timed with the San Diego Padres home opener.

Bar Basic’s return has been highly anticipated since the restaurant closed its original 10th Avenue space, where it operated for nearly two decades as a pre- and post-game institution near Petco Park. The new iteration will occupy a ground-floor unit at Park 12, adjacent to the ballpark, and is expected to feature the same New Haven–style pizzas and full bar that made the original location a citywide favorite.

For North Park, the February 15 closure of URBN Pizza represents the loss of a familiar neighborhood anchor, even as the incoming One Of Us concept signals a shift toward a new kind of community-driven venue. For Mangini and the URBN family, the moment reflects both an ending and a reset, closing one chapter while preparing to reopen another just a few miles away.

URBN Pizza will serve its final pies at its North Park location on February 15. Bar Basic is aiming to reopen in March at Park 12 in San Diego's East Village, pending final construction and inspections. One Of Us is expected to debut at the former URBN space later this year.
