According to fire officials, the fire was reported just before 4:30am at the restaurant located in the 2400 block of Hotel Circle Place. A San Diego police officer patrolling the area first noticed the fire, which authorities say originated in a trash or service area behind the building. Flames spread to portions of the exterior, including the east side of the structure, and caused limited roof damage.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Juan Flores said crews knocked down the fire within five to ten minutes of arriving on scene. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze before it reached the interior dining room, significantly limiting the overall damage.
Officials from multiple agencies confirmed that the cause of the fire remains unknown. The Metro Arson Strike Team has been assigned to investigate the incident, according to statements provided to local television outlets. Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.
Restaurant representatives posted on social media that The Remy would remain closed Tuesday but planned to reopen Wednesday. Fire officials noted that operations were not expected to be disrupted beyond a short closure.
The Remy opened in 2023 after a full renovation of the longtime Hunter Steakhouse building, which had served Mission Valley diners for more than five decades before closing. The modern steakhouse concept brought new life to the historic property, offering classic steakhouse fare, cocktails, and a refreshed interior while maintaining the site’s legacy as a neighborhood dining landmark.
SanDiegoVille reached out to The Remy for comment regarding the incident and reopening timeline but did not receive a response prior to publication. Investigators are expected to release additional details once the cause of the fire is determined.
The Remy is located at 2445 Hotel Circle Place in San Diego's Mission Valley. For more information, visit theremysd.com.
