Raising Cane’s To Open New Oceanside Drive-Thru At Former Mimi’s Café Site

Chicken finger chain Raising Cane’s is expanding its San Diego footprint with a new North County restaurant planned for Pacific Coast Plaza, converting the long-vacant Mimi’s Café building in Oceanside into a high-capacity drive-thru location.
According to a recent announcement shared by OceansideBiz, the Louisiana-born chicken finger chain will transform the former full-service restaurant into a modern drive-through concept designed to accommodate up to 29 vehicles. The Oceanside outpost is currently targeting a mid-2026 opening.

The Vista Way corridor is one of Oceanside’s busiest commercial arteries, offering freeway proximity and strong retail co-tenancy, an ideal setting for Raising Cane’s high-volume drive-thru model. The redevelopment signals continued confidence in North County’s suburban growth and traffic density.

The Oceanside restaurant will also help fill a geographic gap in Raising Cane’s regional map. While the brand already operates nearby locations in Vista, San Marcos, and at Camp Pendleton North, Oceanside itself has remained without a Cane’s outpost. The new Vista Way site will provide a closer option for Oceanside residents who currently travel inland or onto the base for their Box Combos and Cane’s Sauce fix.
Founded in 1996 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Raising Cane’s has built a national following around a tightly focused menu centered on hand-battered chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw, and its signature dipping sauce. The simplified menu and operational efficiency have fueled rapid expansion, with more than 800 restaurants now operating nationwide and abroad.

Locally, the Oceanside addition continues the brand’s aggressive San Diego County buildout. In recent years, Raising Cane’s has opened restaurants in Mira Mesa, Santee, Escondido, Chula Vista, El Cajon, Imperial Beach, and the Midway District near Pechanga Arena. Company representatives have previously indicated long-term plans to grow to as many as 30 locations across the region.

With Oceanside’s population growth, military presence, and steady commuter traffic along State Route 78 and Interstate 5, Raising Cane’s appears poised to capture strong drive-thru demand when doors open later this.

Raising Cane’s is expected to open in mid-2026 at 2177 Vista Way in Oceanside’s Pacific Coast Plaza. For more information, visit raisingcanes.com.
