Kyoto-Inspired Matcha Cafe Andreane To Open In Former Cabo Cantina Space In San Diego's Pacific Beach

A new Japanese-inspired matcha destination is preparing to open in the heart of Pacific Beach, bringing a markedly different concept to the prominent Garnet Avenue address that for nearly two decades housed Cabo Cantina.

Andreane, a Kyoto-inspired wellness space centered on elevated matcha and intentionally designed experiences, is set to debut on Garnet Avenue, just one block from sister business 12 Hrs Matcha Cafe. According to the owner, Andreane is a deeply personal project named after herself and built around the rituals, aesthetic, and lifestyle she has long envisioned sharing with the public. She describes the concept as a woman-owned brand shaped by her experience as a single mother and immigrant, and says the new venture represents the next step in a journey that began in a shared space in Chula Vista before growing into the 300-square-foot 12 Hrs Matcha Cafe on Garnet Avenue.

The new Pacific Beach space is being introduced as “the home of 12 Hrs Matcha Cafe reserve,” suggesting an expansion not only in footprint but in ambition for the brand. Owner messaging indicates the rollout will happen in phases, with more details still to come. That gradual opening strategy fits a concept positioned less as a conventional grab-and-go cafe and more as an experience-driven wellness space rooted in matcha culture and community-building. That experiential framing appears central to the project’s identity, with the owner saying the goal is to create something that adds value, brings people together, and gives energy back to the neighborhood.

The arrival of Andreane also marks one of the more dramatic recent resets on Garnet Avenue. Cabo Cantina, a longtime Pacific Beach party corridor staple known for oversized margaritas and a high-energy Baja-style bar-and-grill atmosphere, closed its doors in February 2025 after nearly 20 years in business. The restaurant had operated at the address since 2006 under Sunset Restaurant Management Group and was one of the more recognizable nightlife anchors in central PB.

The contrast between the two concepts could hardly be sharper. Where Cabo Cantina built its reputation around late-night crowds and a beach-bar atmosphere, Andreane appears poised to introduce a more serene, design-forward, wellness-oriented identity to one of Pacific Beach’s most visible commercial corners. For a neighborhood increasingly seeing shifts in both its retail and food-and-beverage mix, the opening signals another notable evolution along Garnet.

No official opening date has yet been announced, but branding for the project is already live and the team says San Diego will be introduced to the concept soon. Andreane will be located at 1050 Garnet Avenue, Suite A, in San Diego's Pacific Beach. Its sister cafe, 12 Hrs Matcha Cafe, remains open at 1140 Garnet Avenue.
