A recently issued City of San Diego Business Tax Certificate shows Oscar Garcia Leon, operating as a sole proprietor, obtained a business license for Su Pan Bakery to open in the former home of San Diego's Finest Donuts on University Avenue in North Park. The license, issued July 1, lists the business as a limited-service eating place at the freestanding restaurant building near the corner of University Avenue and Swift Avenue.
The location occupies a highly visible standalone restaurant space immediately east of Interstate 805, previously marketed for lease as a fully fixturized restaurant with onsite parking and existing restaurant improvements. Commercial leasing materials describe the property as approximately 1,696 square feet on a corner lot with signage and restaurant infrastructure already in place, potentially allowing for a relatively quick buildout.
The North Park outpost will join Su Pan Bakery's growing network of locations in El Cajon, Poway, San Marcos, and Escondido, bringing the brand deeper into one of San Diego's busiest dining neighborhoods.
Founded in 2010 by brothers Oscar and Domingo Garcia alongside their parents, Su Pan Bakery traces its roots to a family baking tradition that began generations earlier in Tlaxcala, Mexico. After the family immigrated to San Diego and spent years saving money while working in construction, housekeeping, hospitality and small business, they fulfilled a longtime dream by opening their own bakery, carrying forward recipes and techniques passed down through multiple generations.
Today, Su Pan Bakery is known for its daily selection of traditional Mexican pan dulce, bolillos, conchas, tortas, breakfast plates, fresh breads and elaborate cakes for special occasions. The expansion comes as North Park continues attracting both independent operators and established local brands seeking a presence along the bustling University Avenue corridor.
