Popular Pop-Up Supper Series Cow By Bear To Host 5 Year Anniversary Dinner On September 17

May 28, 2016

Possibly the most difficult-to-obtain reservation in San Diego at the moment is for Cow By Bear, a pop-up supper that takes place 3 nights a week at one of several secret downtown locations where an anonymous chef dressed in a full bear suit sears up a meat-centric 5-course wine-paired dinner for 10 guests who dish out $150 per ticket for the experience. The dinners are booked out months in advance, but on September 17, for the first time ever, Bear will host a 10 course dinner for 100 guests at a secret waterfront location downtown to celebrate its 5 year anniversary.

Cow By Bear was started by a chef known only as "Bear" in his/her apartment back in 2011.  The pop-up dinner is now the hottest meal ticket in town, taking place every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and operating out of one of several secret downtown San Diego locations. Each dinner is reserved for a maximum of 10 guests in a communal, social setting. Dinner is five courses, highlighted by a 50-day dry aged ribeye entrée. After receiving a cocktail and snack upon arrival, each course is paired with fine wine expertly curated by Bear.

"It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly five years since the first Cow By Bear iteration began, with me cooking for some friends and testing the concept in my apartment," said Bear. "Since then, the community has grown larger than I ever would have imagined. This is worth celebrating, me thinks, so I’m putting on a special 5-year Anniversary Dinner on September 17 for 100 guests. Dinner will be 10 courses, paired with cocktails and amazing wine. I just locked in the secret waterfront location, and couldn’t be more excited.

For the anniversary dinner, tickets are $250 per person. The cocktail reception will take place between 6-7pm and dinner will last from 7-10pm. There will be a live DJ, photo booth and other surprises. The address will be emailed to participating diners on September 16.
