Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Kitchen To Open San Diego's First Location At One Paseo On August 31

Gwyneth Paltrow's wellness empire officially lands in San Diego this month. Goop Kitchen will open its first local restaurant on Monday, August 31, at Carmel Valley's One Paseo, bringing the Los Angeles-born brand's gluten-free, wellness-focused menu south while simultaneously debuting something entirely new for the company: its first full-service dine-in restaurant.

The opening caps nearly a year of anticipation surrounding Goop Kitchen's San Diego expansion and comes at an interesting moment for One Paseo, which has been steadily reshuffling its original restaurant lineup while replacing departed concepts with a new generation of increasingly recognizable lifestyle brands.

SanDiegoVille first reported plans for Goop Kitchen's One Paseo arrival last September before the project was officially confirmed this summer. The restaurant is taking over the former Tender Greens space at 3725 Paseo Place, transforming a location previously occupied by another health-conscious California chain into what Goop Kitchen describes as a more communal evolution of its primarily delivery-and-takeout model.

One Paseo now confirms that the Del Mar Heights restaurant will be Goop Kitchen's first full-service, dine-in location, allowing customers to eat inside or outdoors rather than experiencing the concept primarily through pickup and delivery. That distinction makes San Diego more than simply another dot on Goop Kitchen's rapidly expanding map.

Founded in 2021 as part of Paltrow's broader Goop lifestyle company, Goop Kitchen initially developed around ghost kitchens, delivery and takeout throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. The restaurant brand has since expanded elsewhere in California and into New York while building its identity around made-to-order food that avoids refined sugars, seed oils and processed additives.

The culinary program is overseen by chef Kim Floresca, whose résumé includes acclaimed kitchens such as Per Se in New York, The Restaurant at Meadowood in Napa Valley and Spain's legendary El Bulli.
Goop Kitchen's menu includes bowls, salads, soups, pizzas, pasta dishes and protein-focused entrées, with ingredients selected around the company's "clean eating" philosophy. Offerings have included the Goop Teriyaki Bowl, Green Goddess Crunch Salad, Mediterranean Hummus Bowl and Miso Salmon Bento Box, along with rotisserie chicken and sustainably sourced salmon.

The menu is gluten-free, although Goop Kitchen has previously cautioned that its facilities are not necessarily appropriate for diners requiring a completely celiac-safe environment.

For the San Diego debut, Goop Kitchen is leaning heavily into the local lifestyle rather than simply importing its Los Angeles branding.

The company has launched a "Now Surfing Serving San Diego" campaign built around recognizable figures from San Diego's surfing, skating and coastal communities. The campaign includes legendary professional surfer Rob Machado and his daughter Rose Machado, longtime professional surfer Taylor Knox, surfboard shaper Chris Borst, women's skate collective GRLSWIRL, Goldie founder Joni Hargrave and Moms Who Kinda Surf founder Codie Cabral.
Shot across digital, film and Super 8 formats, the campaign presents the restaurant through an intentionally San Diego lens: surfing, neighborhood skate sessions, families near the beach and the sort of casual coastal lifestyle Goop Kitchen hopes will translate into customers wandering into One Paseo for lunch or dinner.

There is a certain irony in a quintessentially Los Angeles lifestyle company arriving in San Diego and immediately wrapping itself in local surf culture, especially as the region continues welcoming an increasingly long list of LA-born restaurant and retail brands. But whatever San Diegans think about the continued "LA-ification" of the county, Goop Kitchen is clearly approaching San Diego as more than a one-location experiment.

A second Goop Kitchen is already planned for UC San Diego's massive new Triton Center in La Jolla, which is expected to begin opening in phases this fall. The approximately $453 million campus development will include student health and wellness facilities, an alumni and welcome center, event spaces, retail storefronts and the expansive Triton Plaza gathering area. An exact opening date for the UC San Diego Goop Kitchen has not yet been announced, meaning One Paseo gets the distinction of introducing the brand to San Diego first.

The arrival also comes immediately after another major change at One Paseo. Earlier this week, SanDiegoVille reported that Sweetfin Poke had permanently closed its longtime restaurant at the development after more than seven years in business. Another LA-born concept, Sweetfin was among the original generation of culinary tenants that helped establish One Paseo's identity when the mixed-use project debuted in 2019.
That original restaurant lineup has changed dramatically. International Smoke, the celebrity-backed restaurant from Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry, closed in 2022 and was eventually replaced by South of Nick's Mexican Kitchen + Bar. Tocaya Organica subsequently exited San Diego County. Tender Greens closed, making way for Goop Kitchen. Harland Brewing departed One Paseo last year. Ways & Means Oyster House, once announced as one of the project's marquee opening restaurants, never opened at all.

Sweetfin's closure leaves another prominent vacancy, although One Paseo has continually demonstrated an ability to recruit replacements. Current restaurants include North Italia, Shake Shack, Parakeet Cafe, Salt & Straw, Nick's Del Mar, South of Nick's, Postino WineCafé, Jan's Health Bar, URBN Pizza and others. Blue Bottle Coffee is also listed among the development's incoming tenants.

Goop Kitchen arguably fits the One Paseo formula unusually well. The development was conceived as an affluent, walkable "urban village" combining apartments, offices, boutiques, fitness concepts, restaurants and landscaped gathering spaces in the heart of Carmel Valley. Health-conscious food, celebrity branding, polished design and a Southern California lifestyle aesthetic are practically native languages there. And unlike Goop Kitchen's earlier delivery-oriented locations, the One Paseo restaurant has been specifically designed around lingering.

The brand says the new dine-in model is intended to emphasize "gathering" and "connection," allowing customers to experience meals fresh from the kitchen in an indoor-outdoor environment rather than opening a delivery container at home. One Paseo lists operating hours of 10am to 8pm Monday through Saturday and 11am to 7pm Sunday.

Whether Goop Kitchen becomes another long-term anchor or eventually joins One Paseo's surprisingly lengthy list of departed restaurants remains to be seen. But Paltrow's restaurant company is certainly not entering San Diego tentatively. It is opening its first-ever full-service restaurant here, recruiting some of the region's best-known surf personalities to announce its arrival and already preparing a second location at one of San Diego's largest institutional development projects.

For a brand that spent its first several years largely hidden inside delivery bags, Goop Kitchen's San Diego debut is decidedly more visible.
