Sessions Public Marks 2 Year Anniversary with Exciting New Announcements

June 20, 2012

With a laid-back yet refined take on dining and imbibing, Sessions Public has been touting the mantra “Ale’s what cures you” since opening doors in July of 2010. Nestled between Ocean Beach and Point Loma, the airy 1,800 square foot alehouse effortlessly evokes a sense of casual community with 20 rotating taps, an extensive calendar of interactive beer events and elevated bar food. Showing no signs of slowing down in their third year, Sessions Public will further enhance their reputation as the neighborhood’s favorite local haunt for beer enthusiasts with the introduction of a high-caliber culinary team that will roll out enticing new menu additions in Summer 2012.

Sessions Public announces the addition of two fresh new faces to their successful food lineup with Chefs Eric Meyers and Jasa Joseph. The duo brings experience from renowned kitchens all over the country. Meyers leads the charge with a fine-dining background at Hamiltons at 1st and Main in Charlottesville, VA, while Joseph hails from under the wing of Top Chef alumni, Sam Talbot, as his right-hand Sous Chef at both the Mondrian Hotel in New York City and the Surf Lodge in Montauk.

Meyers and Joseph have plans to enhance the winning combination of flavors on the current menu. Most notably, they are proud to collaborate with Kaase on the Sunday “Taps & Toast” lineup, a cheeky take on a beer brunch. Standout new dishes include the Sweet Potato Hash with tasso ham, grilled onions, peppers and two eggs and the Stuffed French Toast with challah, sautéed peaches and honey cream cheese filling. Bottomless mimosas and beer-centric brunch libations will compliment the menu collection with drinks such as the “My Fair Lady” with Liefman’s Fruitesse Lambic and a touch of champagne, as well as the “Southern Summer” with Bulleit Rye, peach puree, jasmine liquor and blonde ale.

Derived from the term Session, as in ‘drinking session’, and Public, meaning ‘public house’ or ‘taproom’, Sessions Public continues to lead the era of the convivial brewpub with swift precision. Taking his beer program one step beyond the average bar, founder and Point Loma native Abel Kaase has rooted himself deep in San Diego’s craft beer community by creating a unique repertoire of events including “Brunch and a Brewery Tour”, the all-new “Drink the Point,” a monthly collaborative tour of the community’s best beer bars, and a $2 limited-edition cask event every Wednesday evening. In addition, their revolving tap lineup and cask engine regularly feature vintage ales, special releases and rare brews such as the Ballast Point Sculpin IPA on Nitrogen and Ommegang’s Gnomegang and Seduction varieties. Kaase credits his close-knit relationships with the craft breweries for his ability to offer a truly unique selection.

“San Diego is without question known for an abundance of hoppy IPAs. While IPAs are quality beers and we do love to feature them, we also like to shake things up and offer brews that are hard to find,” says Kaase. “We tap something rare almost daily. When we do, we like to do so quietly and let our regulars taste it for themselves,” he continues.

This is the first venue for local entrepreneur, Kaase, a former real estate developer who abruptly left his career in pursuit of his passion for good beer and tasty food. Abel banded together a dream team comprised of the best consultants in the business. Among them was local award-winning designer Michael Soriano who headed up the interior transformation. The visionary dreamed up a comfortable space with clean lines and vintage accents including reclaimed 1930’s barstools, Edison bulb fixtures and whimsical graphics of King Bees.

Sessions Public supports local purveyors by regularly sourcing all bread from San Diego bakeries such as Con Pane and Sadie Rose as well as produce from Suzies Farm, to name a few. In past years Sessions Public has taken home “Best Beer Bars” from San Diego Magazine as well as two Bronze Medals for “Best Beer Selection” and “Best Use of a Small Interior Space” from the Peninsula Beacon.

Sessions Public will be celebrating their 2 year anniversary on July 7th with amongst other things, $2 food and drink specials.
