Busy Weekend Scheduled at the Del Mar Racetrack Highlighted by Miss Cougar Del Mar Pageant, Dashboard Confessional Concert, Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival and Family Fun Day | July 27-29, 2012

Miss Cougar Del Mar, Family Fun Day, the Second Annual Gourmet Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival and two summer concerts highlight a jam packed second weekend at the Del Mar racetrack.

The festivities start this Friday, July 27th for Cougar Day, when Miss Cougar Del Mar 2012 will be crowned and on hand to present the trophy to the winner of the Cougar II Handicap run, known to be the longest distance stakes race of the summer.  Del Mar states the contest is named after a famous racehorse, Cougar II, and therefore only makes sense to be held on the same night as the Cougar II Handicap race.  Friday will also feature the continuation of 4 O'Clock Fridays with a performance by Dashboard Confessional following the day’s racing schedule.

On Saturday, July 28th, come hungry because from noon to 6pm more than 50 food trucks will be stationed at the track, serving up the area’s best dishes for the Gourmet Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival (more to come on this event!!!). Wash down your selections with one of more than 60 beers available on tap, including offerings from  Ballast Point, Green Flash, Pizza Port, Lost Abbey, Stone and many more.

The always popular Family Fun Day will round out the weekend on Sunday, July 29th, starting when gates open at noon. Children will receive a special Webkinz plush horse at the gates and will enjoy dozens of games and attractions set up in the infield while the thoroughbreds race around the track. Sunday will be capped off by a special concert by renowned Norteña band Los Tucanes de Tijuana.

Racing at Del Mar happens Wednesdays through Sundays, with post time for the first race on most days at 2 p.m. On Fridays, first post is at 4 p.m. There will be a special Monday racing card on Labor Day, Sept. 3.
