Feeding America San Diego Announces Inaugural Benefit Gala, 'Sunset Soirée,' with Sheryl Crow and Larry King

August 13, 2012

Both Larry King and Sheryl Crow will be live from La Jolla as Feeding America San Diego invites community leaders, philanthropists, and humanitarians to its inaugural fundraising gala, the "Sunset Soirée," set to take place at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Saturday, October 13.  Sure to be an unforgettable evening under the stars in La Jolla with Master of Ceremonies Larry King, Guests will take in a sunset on the beach while sipping fresh cocktails, experiencing delectable cuisine, and enjoying an exclusive performance by nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow.

“Sunset Soirée” is generously underwritten by the Meyer Family, allowing 100% of funds raised through tickets, tables and sponsorships to go directly to programs at Feeding America San Diego.  The Meyer Family, comprised of Gwendolyn Meyer (director of Aqualia Foundation) and her family have been major donors and longtime supporters of Feeding America San Diego since its founding in 2007. They have funded all expenses for the event so that every dollar raised goes back to the organization. Typically, funds raised at an event such as this also have to pay for expenses, then the balance goes to the charity's programs, but not for the Sunset Soirée!  Through key partnerships with corporate partners, food donors, grocery stores and the national member network, Feeding America San Diego provides six meals for every dollar donated.

Established in 2007, Feeding America San Diego (FASD) is San Diego’s largest distributor of food, more than 21.5 million pounds within the last year, and the only Feeding America affiliate in the county. FASD works closely with over 160 partner agencies, local school districts, corporate partners and a network of volunteers to serve 73,000 children, families and seniors in need each week. Devoted to feeding the hungry, advocating for a sustainable future, and educating the community, FASD is committed to building a hunger-free and healthy San Diego through innovative programs and collaborative partnerships.

The Sunset Soirée will begin on October 13th at 5:00 PM with cocktails on the north end of the beach.  At 6:30 PM, guests will promenade to the fountain. Dinner starts at 7pm.  At 7:30, guests will get the program with Master of Ceremonies Larry King, followed by an 8:00 PM auction.  The finalé will be an 8:45pm special acoustic performance with Sheryl Crow.
