Let the Games Begin with San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation's 11th Annual Taste at the Cove Event | September 6th

August 24, 2012

Celebrating its 11th year as one of La Jolla Cove’s premier events, the annual fundraiser, Taste at the Cove, is returning Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 for its most anticipated year yet. The first-class event will bring guests food, fashion, one-of-a-kind auction items and world-class athletes, including Olympians. As San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation’s (SDSMF) signature fundraiser, Taste at the Cove will honor community legends and one medical champion. The five-star charity event will be held at Scripps Park at La Jolla Cove.

One of San Diego’s longest running and most unique charitable events, Taste at the Cove features food from over 30 of San Diego’s best restaurants, including Whisknladle, Cusp Dining & Drinks, Herringbone and Eddie V’s. Guests will also enjoy hosted bars, a swimwear fashion show by Sauvage, opportunity drawings, silent auction items plus a live auction. The event benefits the SDSMF’s mission to provide a medical safety net for injured youth with limited financial means in order to return them back to health, sports and life.

“Taste at the Cove has been a great success for over a decade, and each year it gets bigger and better,” says Dr. David Chao, founder and president of the SDSMF. “We are fortunate to receive such incredible community support when it comes to bringing top-quality care to injured youth who are in need."

In honor of the 2012 Olympic Games, Taste at the Cove will honor and recognize all of San Diego's Olympians, including Pat Powers, Joe Franchin, Greg Louganis, Al Joyner, Soren Thompson, Layne Beaubien, Brian Alexander, Tanya Gandy and Kelly Rulon for their hard work, dedication and pure athletic ability. Olympic guests include gymnastics gold medalist Kerry Strug, San Diego track & field gold medalist Monique Henderson, San Diego cyclist gold medal favorite Sarah Hammer and San Diego beach volleyball silver medalist, Mike Dodd. Honorees are recognized for their strong San Diego ties and contributions to the community.

The 2012 Medical Honoree for the SDSMF is Sue Lalicker, who has been providing care for San Diego student athletes for over 30 years. Her volunteerism as an athletic trainer for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, work ethic and passion for education and Sports Medicine have resulted in a distinguished career respected by everyone fortunate enough to work with her.
