March of Dimes Takes on Child Health Issues at 2nd Annual "A Night at the Speakeasy" Signature Chefs & Mixologists Gala | November 8th

November 7, 2012

Can you imagine a day when all babies are born healthy?  Support the Second Annual Fundraising Gala to benefit the San Diego-Imperial Division of the March of Dimes Foundation and help to actualize this day!  March of Dime’s Second Annual Gala Fundraiser, “A Night at the Speakeasy,” will team San Diego’s top chefs and cocktail mixologists for an evening of gourmet food tastings, fabulous prohibition-breaking libations, and special auction experiences – all in a setting that reflects the glamour and revelry of the roaring 20’s. The festivities take place from 5:30 to 9:30 pm, Thursday November 8, 2012, at the historic El Cortez Apartment Hotel located at 702 Ash Street, 92101.
Event Chairs Michele Arthur and Yolanda S. Walther-Meade, and their committee, have planned an amazing event for their Gatsby-attired guests. Attendees will enjoy a delicious array of chef tastings and signature cocktails, while enjoying live and interactive entertainment, starring musical guests “"The Bastards of Belleville”.  There will also be a “Golden Ticket” drawing for a chance to win a $30K Corum Watch (see below). The event continues with a seated dessert course and live auction, all housed in the Art Deco grandeur of the historic El Cortez, which opened in 1927 as the “most glamorous apartment-hotel in San Diego.”

As Ms. Walther-Meade describes it “This event is designed to be an exciting and elegant evening of entertainment speakeasy-style - with a tremendous culinary showcase! We are incredibly proud to support the march of dimes and its efforts to improve the health of all babies in San Diego!”

Headed by renown Co-Lead Chefs Bernard Guillas of the Marine Room and Andrew Spurgin of Campine Catering, Bespoke Event Styling & Menu Design, the evening features top chefs from a variety of San Diego’s premier restaurants including; Dawn Parks of The Wild Thyme Company, Alex Carballo of Stone World Bistro, Hanis Cavin of Carnitas’ Snack Shack, Isabel Cruz of Isabel’s Cantina, Tommy Gomes of Catalina Offshore, Matt Gordon of Urban Solace, Ilan Hall of The Gorbals, Katherine Humphus of Bo-beau, Rachel King of Searsucker, Donald Lockhart of Cusp, David Meade of Nobu, Javier Plascencia of Mision 19 and Miguel Valdez of Wellington.

To complement the Chefs divine dishes, Mixologists including; Nick Brigante of PrepKitchen, Michael Esposito of Snake Oil Cocktail Co., Dustin Haarstad & Adam Stemmler of Blind Tiger Cocktail Co. featuring Tequila Fortaleza, Nate Howell of Cusp, Jeff Josenhans of Grant Grill, Shane McKnight of Best Beverage and Ian Ward of Pick & Rocks.

All proceeds support the work of the March of Dimes.  The mission of the March of Dimes Foundation is to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. In our effort to raise awareness and resources that will contribute to this mission, we are delighted to announce our second annual Signature Chefs & Master Mixologists Auction!
