Stone Vertical Epic Release Event and Dinner Pairing at Burlap in Del Mar | Thursday, December 13th

Stone Brewing Co.'s last release of its famed Vertical Epic Ale will be celebrated Asian Cowboy style at Burlap in Del Mar this Thursday, December 13th. Because its the final release, Burlap's Executive Chef Anthony Sinsay wanted this to be an "EPIC" event so he invited fellow San Diego chefs Paul McCabe of La Valencia, Joe Magnaneli of CUCINA Urbana, Hanis Cavin of Carnitas Snack Shack & Rachel King of baKING Co. to help send this brew out with a bang!  Each chef will run a brew station and be paired with a release year! Five years, five beers and five chefs! This will indeed be epic!

Each year since 2002, knowledgeable beer fans eagerly await the release of Stone Brewery’s Vertical Epic Ale. This Belgian-style brew changes every year in terms of flavor, but is always one year, one month and one day from the last batch. Since the tradition started in 02.02.02 each beer also happens to be released on a day when all of the numbers, (and some say the stars), line up. 09.09.09, had a slightly coffee-malt flavor, while 10.10.10 was tart and extremely dry. The release of the Stone Vertical Epic Ale is something that Stone fans truly look forward to.

Unfortunately, we have come to the end with 12.12.12 seeing the final release of the Stone Vertical Epic Series of beers.  With a beer this good, Burlap's owner Brian Malarkey and Chef Anthony Sinsay couldn’t help but start thinking about what foods pair well with each of the last 5 years. Alas, Chef Sinsay of BURLAP partnered with Stone and asked four of his chef friends to create a food pairing that would perfectly accompany each version of Vertical Epic Ale from 08.08.08 on.

The tasting, which will take place on December 13, 2012 at 7pm will have some unforgettable beers and menu items.
For example, Chef Sinsay will be pairing his “Steak and “Eggs”, a hatch chili rubbed bison tenderloin with burnt banana meringue, malted sunchoke and truffled ikura along with Stone Vertical Epic 2012.
