Stone Brewing CEO Greg Koch Pledges to Shave It All for Movember

September 16, 2013

Attention Mo Bros and Mo Sistas of San Diego! Our beloved beer god, Greg Koch, CEO and Co-Founder of the internationally respected Stone Brewing Co. is partnering up with this year's global Movember movement in an effort to raise vital awareness and funds for men's health to combat prostate and testicular cancer. What's to be one of the most EPIC shave-downs this city has ever seen, Koch has pledged his Duck Dynasty-style facial hair to the barbershop clippers come Friday, November 1st for the SHAVE THE DATE Movember kickoff party at Quality Social.  If Greg Koch can raise $15,000 before November 1st, he's pledged to shave it ALL off!!

“Twice in my life I’ve shaved a goatee leaving a mustache, and both times I removed it the same day because it freaked me out when I looked in the mirror. I can’t imagine having one for a month,” said Koch. “My current beard is stately and reminiscent of our founding fathers. Yet if I raise enough money, I’m trading that stately look for a mustache that’ll probably be reminiscent of a bad 70’s album cover. Sometimes I amaze even myself at the lengths I’ll go, or cut, for charitable causes. Now that’s self-sacrifice on behalf of others! So, I’m calling for your support. Donate not for me, but for the causes. I’m just your humble servant.”

This will be the FIRST TIME in over two years that Greg's mug will be completely clean-shaven! Koch’s personal goal is to raise $25,000 through the “SHAVE GREG” Movember campaign, though an absolute rock-bottom amount of $15,000 before November 1st is required to make it happen. Donations are now being accepted online via his Movember team page.

November 1st kicks off the official start of Movember, a global men's health charity encouraging men to grow and women to support the Mo (or moustache) for 30 days of Movember. Through the power of the stache, awareness and funds are raised for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. Shave The Date is a day to shave down and get excited about the hairy month ahead - with a number of Mo-centric events taking place all around the globe, and locally in SD - a poker tournament and the annual Mo's & Ho's party to name a few.

Since 2003, 3 million participants have raised over $439 Million for the cause, funding 550 research and survivorship programs globally, with official Movember campaigns taking place in 21 countries. Movember is fully accredited by the Better Business Bureau, and for the past two years, Movember has been named to the Global Top 100 NGO list by The Global Journal.  Movember is a registered 501(c)(3) charity.

This year, to celebrate the coming of Movember hundreds of San Diegans will gather together at the Gaslamp's favorite locale, Quality Social, for an event that will go down in the beard-bearing history books. With Greg Koch's LIVE shave-down taking center stage, local Mo's will have an opportunity to get their own faces registered and clean shaven, courtesy of Floyd's Barber Shop, who will be onsite to professionally shave attendees free of charge.

November 1st's SHAVE THE DATE will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm, is free to attend, and all ages are welcome. Quality Social will also be offering booze & bites specials including beer from Stone Brewing Co. during the duration of the fundraising event

Quality Social is located at 789 6th Ave. in Downtown SD. For more information on Movember, please visit www.movember.com.
