Five Things You Did Not Know About KAABOO Del Mar | Music, Comedy & Cultural Festival Comes To San Diego September 18-20

September 4, 2015

KAABOO Del Mar will bring an amazing lineup of live music and comedy, local eats and spirits, artists, vendors, craft beer and so much more to the Del Mar Racetrack for three days of celebrating our SoCal culture on the weekend of September 18-20. We are raffling off two single day passes for one lucky reader so be sure to enter and take a look at our list of the 5 things you did not know about San Diego's new cultural festival!

1. The name KAABOO came after a night of boozing!
The name 'Kaaboo' (pronounce 'kah-BOO') came after an extended evening of consuming mostly tequila, which turned into an early morning sitting around a fire pit at a hotel in Del Mar with nearly a half dozen organizers. When someone eventually came up with 'KAABOO', the whole group agreed in unison that they found their name! The name is meant to embody the freedom felt when having a purely good, relaxed, in-the-moment experience with friends and family. Wanna kaaboo? Yea, us too.

2. The inspiration for the festival came while attending a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Organizers Bryan Gordon and Chris Brown came up with the idea of hosting their own concert-experience while attending a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver, Colorado. "I've been a lifelong fan of live music and live experiences," explained Gordon. "For me, it delivers a felling of peace almost like religion or therapy. More people in this day and age need that sort of live experience - something that allows them to unplug from day-to-day life and just enjoy themselves. KAABOO is a great way to experience music and a great way to refresh your soul."

3. San Diego chefs will also headline the inaugural event!
Everyone thinks KAABOO is just a big music festival, but did you know there is a whole area of the festival experience dedicated to the palate? PALATE represents the most upscale culinary environment of the KAABOO festival "mix-perience," where guests can discover new tastes, sample food/wine/spirits and learn more from culinary rockstars! On Saturday, September 19, KAABOO Rockstar Chef Competition is taking place in partnership with and hosted by Chef's Roll. It's an all-day culinary competition pairing some of the best chefs in the county against each other, including Brian Malarkey (Searsucker/ Herringbone), Javier Plascencia (Bracero/Romesco), James Montejano (La Valencia), Chad White (Comun Kitchen), Jason McLeod (Ironside Fish & Oyster) and Amy DiBiase (Tidal at Paradise Point Resort & Spa). There will be 3 rounds before the finalists compete in the final Fried Chicken Recipe Challenge. There will also be a Chef Bands Performances, where live music played by bands made up of local restaurant industry insiders will take place.

4. There are ticket options for every agenda!
Want to go just one day? How about just Friday and Sunday? All 3 days? Want a luxury experience to take on this festival like a celebrity? KAABOO is offering ticket options that will suit any need, including 1, 2 and 3 day tickets, as well as a range of VIP packages.

5. There will be a beachy pool party at KAABOO!
KAABOO wouldn't be the perfect SoCal weekend if you weren't able to enjoy some beach time. BASK will be a sandy, separate-ticketed, beach area near the Sunset Cliffs main stage that offers premium cabanas and chaise lounges with umbrellas for rent. Enjoy a direct stage view with a pool and exclusive bar, providing attendees the opportunity to kick back, soak in the scene and enjoy everything that KAABOO has to offer - sand, sun, friends, great live music and so much more.
