Arcade games are living on through such ventures as Barcade, Coin-Op Gameroom and Dave & Busters, and now one of San Diego's largest restauranteurs is getting in the game, literally. The Cohn Restaurant Group is gearing up for their latest hospitality venture - a 2,400 square foot arcade meets tap room in East County’s La Mesa neighborhood located directly adjacent to the Cohn’s BO-beau kitchen + garden. With a tentative name of Coin Haus, construction is slated to begin this winter while the projected opening is Summer 2016.
“La Mesa has always been a special place for us and it’s exciting to be part of the community’s growth as a dining destination,” says David Cohn, Founder of Cohn Restaurant Group. “As BO-Beau kitchen + garden did back in 2013, we hope COIN HAUS will help to further La Mesa’s reputation as an up-and-coming culinary and entertainment neighborhood.”
Coin Haus plans to feature 50 self-serve taps for imbibers to taste and explore. Showcasing local brews and notable rare barrels, Coin Haus’ unique pour-style will allow guests to sample a large variety of craft beers while enjoying a retro game arcade imagined by Scott Helstrom, local arcade aficionado who spearheads the Gamers Garage at the Cohn’s Corvette Diner. Patrons can look forward to getting their fix on nostalgic game classics like Super Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong and Frogger. Cohn Restaurant Group’s in-house designer Philippe Beltran (BO-Beau kitchen + bar, Draft Republic, Indigo Grill) will lead the interior vision for the space.
Cohn Restaurant Group has a history of developing creative dining gems in underserved neighborhoods, from Sea 180 Coastal Tavern in Imperial Beach to Vintana in Escondido. Having successfully reignited the previously sleepy block of downtown’s La Mesa Boulevard with the opening of the upscale yet approachable BO-Beau kitchen + garden in 2013, the Cohn Restaurant Group is excited to offer an entirely new concept to complement this burgeoning area.
